Wedenesday 20th December, 2023

As usual, the Christmas period has been very hectic but a lot of fun; we hope your child has enjoyed all the different activities in the last few weeks.

Thank you for attending the concerts and Christmas play in such big numbers and I hope you enjoyed seeing your children performing or singing. I know they always look forward to you joining us for different events.

The children finished the term off with the 'Friends' disco' last night, which followed on from the 'Santa Dash' last week. Our thanks for all the hard work the 'friends of school' have put into supporting the school this term and thank you to everyone who helped last night and to Mrs Hartley and Mrs Lewis for all that they do for the school. They have informed me we have a good amount of money to spend on new equipment and resources for the children, so we hope to be able to share this news with you in the New Year.

In assembly yesterday, we gave out certificates to children who have been here all term and certificates to those that have also had great attendance (98% or above). Well done to everyone. Our attendance for the term was 93.24%; this is below our target and the lowest attendance for many years. We please ask for support from all parents and carers in helping to improve this after Christmas.

We were pleased to at last receive our 'Run Pudsey' medals and we enjoyed celebrating the children's excellent attendance once more. See the lovely picture below!

I hope you all have some time off over Christmas to enjoy with your families and on behalf of us all, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

We enjoyed celebrating our amazing fund-raising efforts again yesterday and we were so pleased that the children's medals turned up in time for the end of term. Well done to all once again for raising over £1600! A tremendous effort!

Christmas Concerts

We were treated to two amazing carol concerts at St Cuthbert's Church last week. On Tuesday, our Year 3s and 4s took centre stage as they shared songs and poems about Christmas. On Thursday it was the turn of our Year 5s and 6s to spread the festive cheer with their Christmas-themed personification poetry and haikus.

It was great that so many people could join us - it was standing room only for both concerts and was the perfect way to wish everyone involved with Sprowston Junior School a very Merry Christmas!

Santa Dash

Santa paid Sprowston Junior a visit recently and all children joined him for the Friends of Sprowston Junior Santa Dash. It was great to see the children dashing round the playground in their Santa hats, which were kindly provided by the Friends. There was even a covering of 'snow' to make things feel even more Christmasy. In addition to their Santa hats, each child received a bag of chocolate coins from the big man himself.

Thanks to the Friends for organising this event.

No-one Wraps like an Elf

The Musical Theatre production this year was 'No one Wraps like an Elf!' The children worked hard over the last few weeks to learn their lines and to memorise the songs!

The children from Year 3 to Year 6 came together and worked well as a group throughout the whole term. It was once again lovely to see them all pulling together and learning how to put on a production for their parents, carers and peers. We really hope they've all enjoyed being part of it!

Our thanks to Miss Watts and Mrs Harrison for all their efforts putting the show together.

Mousehold View Care Home Visit

Miss Watts and 10 children from Year 5 and 6 went to the care home to sing songs along with Sprowston infants. They had a lovely visit and enjoyed singing a number of Christmas songs for the residents. We hope to return soon!

Christmas Lunch

Last week we had Christmas lunch on Wednesday. Each year group had the chance to eat their Christmas lunch together, join in with festive songs and share the jokes from their crackers.

St Andrew's Concert

Last Friday the whole school went to St Andrews Hall for an enjoyable concert, organised by the Into Opera company. We listened to a range of singers and the brilliant Sinfonia Orchestra. The children also sang a number of Christmas songs together with the other schools present. It was lovely to all go out of school together and share an afternoon of excellent singing and music.
