Year 3 Newsletter

Spring 2024

Welcome back Year 3 and a Happy New Year to you all.

We hope you have all had the most wonderful Christmas break with lots of fun and rest. Hopefully you are all ready for the start of a busy, but brilliant, Spring term.

Like before, this newsletter has been put together to tell you about the main topics we will be covering and to give you a reminder of general day-to-day information.

The Year 3 Team:

Martham Class: Mrs Wills – Class teacher

Filby Class: Mrs Connell and Miss Howse - Class teachers

Teaching assistants: Mrs Aldous, Mrs Blazer, Mrs Magee and Mrs Webb

Spring Term Curriculum Overview

We are very excited to be continuing with our Stone Age learning. We will be adding to our knowledge by creating a Stone Age fire (and cooking on it) and learning about Stone Age places of interest.

Later in the term, we will begin our learning of Ancient Egypt.

This is such a wonderful topic; we will be finding out about mummies, gods, pyramids, important rivers and Pharaohs. We can not wait to share the learning with you.

We will also have a special Egyptian day in school (details to follow).

Light and Shadow

In science, we will be learning all about how light works and travels. We will be doing lots of investigations to find out how to make and change shadows too.

Yoga

In PE, we have started our Yoga lessons. Each lesson teaches the children new yoga poses and gives them top tips on how to use yoga for mindfulness. Watch out at home because they might get you involved!

Scratch

As part of our computing lessons, the children will learn how to use 'Scratch'. This is a brilliant programme that teaches them how to animate characters in a game.

Helpful knowledge organisers will be sent home prior to each main topic. This will help children learn key vocabulary and important facts.

Thank you to those that have signed up to and are using 'Marvellous Me'.  We hope that you are receiving the important reminders, positive messages and general comments. Thank you for the 'High Fives' that come back to us. If you are having any issues with this, please contact the school office.

For anyone that hasn't signed up, here is a reminder of the links:

Reminders:

Home/School Journal: Children will earn house points for reading at home. Every Friday we expect the journal to come in to school signed by someone at home (with a comment if possible).

Homework: Homework is given on a Wednesday and is expected back the following Monday. Children have logins to access maths games at home too- these can be found in the home/school journal.

We will send home spellings to practise in all different ways each week in line with our ‘Read Write Inc’ spelling programme.

You may also be the lucky carer of Martham's Maths’ monkey - Chimpanthree or Filby's maths crocodile, Mildred.  If you get to take these home, please complete some maths with them and record your activity in the book sent home.

PE days:

Year 3 PE days are Monday and Friday. Please send children to school in their PE kits (blue/black shorts, navy or white tops). Earrings should not be worn on these days and hair should be tied back.
