Friday 10th May, 2024

We are settled nicely into the final term of the year and there is plenty to look forward to in the next few weeks and months, with all year groups looking forward to some lovely trips across Norfolk and beyond!

We have listed the key events for the rest of the term below and will be sending out more information about certain events nearer the time. Like always, the end of the school year is set to be an extremely busy couple of months!

Next week sees Year 6 take their Key Stage 2 SATs and we wish them all the very best. They have been working hard towards the assessments and I know they will be pleased to get them underway.

The Governors' of Sprowston Junior will soon be sending out their questionnaire to get your views on all matters related to school. Please do look out for the email, and we would appreciate you taking a few moments to fill in the survey.

Have a lovely weekend!

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Boy at the Back of the Class

The Year 4 children really enjoyed their trip to see 'Boy at the Back of the Class'. They read the book in class and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the book come to life in the theatre:

This was one of the best trips I've ever had! We went to the Theatre Royal in Norwich. Suddenly, it all went dark and I thought there was a power cut, but I realised the curtains were opening! BOOOM! The show began and suddenly beams of light came rushing through and I was amazed with all the characters and the effects. It was incredible. The story was about a refugee who arrives at a new school. We had a great time. I thought it was amazing!

Jacob

I really enjoyed the performance of Boy at the Back of the Class. I liked Tom because he made the 'A' team and his voice and dancing were amazing. I liked how Mikel had a scooter and kept falling over! I enjoyed seeing the performance of a book we've been reading.

Year 5/6 Football Season Review

The football season has come to an end, and it finished with a trophy for winning the mini-league after Christmas. We'll be presenting the trophy in the celebration assembly next week. We asked Jack & Leo B  (Yr 6) to summarise the season for us:

We thought all the players played well over the season and especially the Year 5 children who were playing with children a year older.

We did well in the games before Christmas and were unlucky not to finish top of the league. After Christmas, we did not lose in the league! We made it to the cup semi-final and we played really well but were unlucky to lose 2-1.

Over the season we had some hard games but the team battled through and we enjoyed some great wins. We think Olly did particularly well and was a goal machine. Ethan also pulled off some amazing saves in goal.

Well done to everybody who played for the team this year - a trophy winning season!

Summer is nearly here!

We have had a small peek into what may be quite a hot summer term. A reminder please to ensure your child has a water bottle in school and brings a cap or sun hat to wear at lunchtimes on the hotter days, as well as sun cream applied in the mornings before they arrive.

We have a lot of lost property in school and now the nicer weather is here we will start to put it out on the playground for you to see whether you can find any lost items!

Year 5 enjoyed the sunshine this afternoon whilst they were busy composing music!

School Council Update

School Council have been meeting to discuss how best to spend the money they raised earlier in the year. They all agreed that they would like to buy things other than footballs and try to offer a wider range of games and activities for all children. An order has been placed for some of the items already and they will be looking at other items to add to these over the coming weeks.

The School Council are also keen to offer role play style activities and would be really grateful if anyone has any unused toy cars, toy soldiers or duplo that they would be happy to donate to school.

MSA Opportunity

We are looking to employ someone for lunchtimes from September to be a midday supervisor, working primarily in the SHIP (our new specialist provision), and also sometimes in the main school.

If you are interested in working at the school and would be available Monday to Friday between 12:15pm & 1:45pm, then please get in touch in the first instance by emailing Liz Faulkes (officemanager@sprowstonjunior.norfolk.sch.uk) and registering your interest in the position.

Attendance

Whole school attendance continues to be slightly under the national average (93%) at 92.11%. It would be pleasing to see this rise as we go through the summer term, and we can't stress enough the importance of excellent attendance, so children do not have gaps in their learning which can lead to a child progressing much slower than they should be.

Did You Know?

One full school year at 90% attendance is the equivalent of 4 weeks of learning missed!

Over 5 years of school, this adds up to half a school year missed.
