Dear Parents & Carers

Now we are only a few days from the end of term, please can I take this opportunity to thank all our parents and carers for your support this academic year. It has been another extremely busy year with many lovely events across the time period. I hope all families get to spend some quality time together before we return in September (and the weather improves!).

We have had some lovely events in the last few weeks and we've been proud of the behaviour and performances of the children. One of these events was the Lord Mayor's Procession and I enjoyed seeing the fun the children were having and the super dancing too. Thank you to all the families who went along to the event and helped to make it successful. The children performing Macbeth at the Playhouse Theatre were also a credit to the school and came away with plenty of praise for their acting and performance.

The summer fair was a big success once again, and we're delighted that the event raised over £3000. Thank you if you were able to find the time to come along to the event or supported it by donating/buying tickets. A big thank you to Mrs Hartley, Mrs Lewis and Mrs Towers for all their fantastic efforts in organising the event, and also to any other helpers on the night.

Year 6 have been working really hard to learn their lines for Shrek, the Year 6 leavers' performance. We really hope all those who come to watch really enjoy the show over the next two days.

We say goodbye to Mrs Aldous this Friday. Mrs Aldous has worked at Sprowston Junior School and Sprowston Infant School for 27 years and taught and helped so many children in that time period. She is retiring from working in schools and I know this has been a difficult decision for her. The school community will miss her! We wish her all the very best for the future.

We also say goodbye and good luck to Mrs Strowger. Mrs Strowger has been with us for a couple of years and is moving on to be a teaching assistant at another school. We thank her for all her hard work and wish her well in her new role.

Finally, we say goodbye to many families this week. We wish all the children moving on all the very best and hope they settle well in their new schools.

Have a lovely summer holiday when it arrives, and we'll see you all on September 4th!

Kind regards

Matt Walton, Headteacher

Sports Day | Corpus Christi Catholic School

On Monday July 1st, Year 3 & 4 enjoyed their Sports Day and with it some nice weather too. The children took part in all the events with a lot of enthusiasm and the races followed with plenty of effort and good teamwork too.

The children really enjoyed the morning, both the different activities and the competitive races. Many of them wanted to run again and again!

After rain had stopped play the week before, Years 5 and 6 finally got their chance to compete in their Sports Day. Everyone gathered on the Rec for the traditional Sprowston Junior School carousel of activities. As the sun shone, there were some brilliant performances. Eggs were being carried, hurdles hurdled, korfball goals scored and skippers skipping - everywhere you looked there were children battling it out to see which House would come out on top.

After a quick lolly break the children were on the track for the running races. Again, there were some fantastic performances - we were even joined by parents/carers and dogs this year!

Well done to all the children who took part and a big thank you to all the parents/carers who came to support.

Sprowston Junior and the RSC!

Last week, children from Sprowston Junior joined children from other schools across Norwich at the Norwich Playhouse to perform their very own version of Macbeth. Each school was given a scene or two and have been working hard over the last few months to give their very own flavour to them. As you would imagine, our children did an incredible job!

Well done to Amber, Daniil, Darcie, Eilloitt, Millie, Francesca, Gioia, Hayleigh, Imogen and Lydia for their brilliant performances.

A big thank you to Miss Watts and Mrs Harrison for all their hard in putting together the performances.

Year 3 trip to West Runton

Last week Year 3 headed to West Runton to help with their topic of coasts. They spent time exploring rock pools, finding out about Norfolk's Deep History Coast and creating some amazing beach art.

Lord Mayor's Procession

It was great to see children from both Sprowston Junior and Sprowston Infants taking part in the Lord Mayor's Procession at the weekend. The forecast didn't look favourable, but the children (and accompanying adults) looked amazing in their colourful headdresses, sweatbands and glitter.

A big thank you Miss Wyatt for organising the entry this year and to all the adults who joined the procession - you all looked fabulous!

Year 5 dance up a Mexican storm!

Last week Year 5 were joined by Mexican dance teacher Lorraine to help them cap off an exciting half- term of learning all about Mexico. The hall was full of colourful headdresses, face paints and of course hip-wiggling music. It was wonderful to see all the children and adults joining in and really embracing the dances.

Grand Summer Fair

A massive thank you to all the Friends of Sprowston Junior School for hosting a wonderful Grand Summer Fair. It was great to see so many people enjoying the variety of stalls as well as sampling the BBQ. There were some great prizes in the tombola - thanks again to all who donated for this. The big hit of the night had to be the Wonka Bars. Well done to Imogen for winning the coveted inflatable unicorn.

The money raised will go to fund future projects across the school, so thank you very much for all your support.

Attendance

A letter will be emailed this week with news of changes to Attendance which will be coming into effect from September 2024. Please read the letter so you understand the changes the government have put into place.

The average school attendance for the academic year is around 3% lower than the previous year (91.67%).  We will be asking everyone to work together to support improved attendance and an increase towards the national average when we return in September.

The Big Norfolk Holiday Fun programme is back for summer!

Big Norfolk Holiday Fun is back for the summer holidays! Activities will take place between July 22nd – September 3rd 2024.

The Big Norfolk Holiday Fun (BNHF) activity programme is run in partnership with Norfolk County Council, thanks to four years of funding which is due to end in winter 2024. It provides holiday activities for children and young people aged 4 -16 in Norfolk.

These activities include multi-sports, dance, theatre, arts and crafts, and much more!

Children eligible for benefits-related free school meals can claim free spaces on the activities, whilst paid spots are available on many activities for those who don’t.
