Girls' Football Team
On Friday 21st our 9 girls from years 5 and 6 joined nine other schools to take part in the annual Norwich High School for Girls summer football tournament.
The weather forecast didn't look all that favourable, but the enthusiasm of the girls soon cheered everyone up.
The morning began for us with games against Norwich High School for Girls, Norwich School, Poringland and Old Catton. Two draws and two losses meant that we would spend the afternoon on the 'Silver' pitch battling it out for the Silver Cup.
After a quick break for lunch, we kicked off the afternoon with a game against Cringleford. After that came games against Old Catton, Poringland and Bignold. with Old Catton matching us for wins it would be a close thing. Before our final game, we needed a win by one goal to secure the overall victory. Winning 4-0 it meant that we won the Silver Cup.
The team was: Bella, Freya C, Phoebe, Ani, Jessica, Lexi, Zuza, Freya H and Olivia. As you would expect, the girls were brilliantly behaved and showed amazing team spirit all day and thoroughly deserved to come away with some silverware.
Here is a report by Phoebe about the day:
At the girls' football tournament at the Norwich High School for Girls on Friday the 21st of April. Me and lots of girls played against teams all over Norwich which was a great experience for the people that have not been in a team before. There was a lot of team spirit in every match and Freya in 5B scored most of the goals, I scored one and Olivia in 6R scored one too. Everybody was always kind and played amazingly. From Phoebe
Freya and Bella in Year 5 also wrote a report of the day:
The day of the football tournament, we didn't know how well each other played since we hadn’t trained with each other before. We were all very supportive of each other and cheered all of us on with encouragement! The first four games we weren't very hopeful but we still didn't give up.
Then the afternoon came and we went down to the little pitch and had more energy from lunch and started to play better as a team. Then we played another four games, the first game we played in the afternoon and we won it. There was Old Caton who were the ones who we tied for points with and we drew 0-0 to them both times we played them. After that, we won the rest of the games and kept an eye on Old Caton’s score!
Our very last game, it was very important we had to win this we won 4-0 and we thought we won the silver cup …
Soon after we made our way to the presentations and saw that we were tied with Old Caton…
Luckily, we won by goals which was a huge achievement for us as a team!!!
So we won the SILVER CUP !!!!!!
