Our Autumn Curriculum
Literacy - we begin with Marcus Sedgwick's 'Floodland' which is set in Norwich and the surrounding area. We will then move on to Darren Shan's 'Cirque du Freak'.
Maths - we will begin by revisiting place value and the four main operations (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication) before moving on to fractions.
Science - we will be looking at how living things have adapted over time and thinking about inheritance. As well as this will be investigating how light travels in a straight line, how it helps to form shadows and is reflected.
Geography - we will learn all about how rivers are formed and how they impact the lives of people around them. During this topic will be focusing on Brazil and the River Amazon, we will also spend some time learning about the rainforest.
History - we will be learning about Medieval Norwich and how it began the city we know and love today. We will also find out how Norwich City Football Club got its emblem of a canary.
R.W.E - in Religious and Worldviews Eductation we cover three topics in year 6; alternating between Judaism, Humanism and Christianity for the entirety of the year.
Art - we will focus on the drawings and sculptures of Giacometti.
DT - we will be exploring renewable energy and climate change through the book 'The Boy who Harnessed the Wind' resulting in children designing and modelling a method of producing electricity using scrap materials.
Computing - we will begin by looking at E-Safety as this is a crucial aspect of the computing curriculum in today's technological society. We discuss how to stay safe online and look at how the Internet is used. Later on in the term we will begin to look at programming and coding.
Music - this term, we are going to be looking beat and rhythm before moving on to Brazilian music before Christmas.
French - Mrs Blazer will teach the children how to deliver greetings in French and discuss school life.
