Dear Parents & Carers

It's been a busy couple of weeks with a number of lovely events, and it is time for a quick break before the spring term continues.

Hopefully you will now already be sorted for parents' evening when we return, but if you aren't, and you have any problems, please speak to the school office who will sort any issues out for you. 

We were delighted to see the girls' football team winning their cup game this week and look forward to the next round of the competition. The girls were thrilled with the victory and showed excellent team work in winning the tie. 

Earlier this week, we recognised Internet Safety Day and a lot of the children watched a live lesson from the BBC. Throughout the year, we cover e-Safety a considerable amount. It is important the children are confident users of computers, but also knowledgable about what to do when things do not seem right.

After half-term we have 'Book Week' fast approaching and we look forward to the different activities. The dressing up this year is to dress as a 'word' of your choice, so hopefully this is a simple idea but allows everyone to be as creative as they would like to be!

Shakespeare Day

We enjoyed our first ever 'Shakespeare Day' and it was lovely to see some of the wonderful costumes. The day was full of enjoyable activities, including Year 5 & 6 watching Midsummer Night's Dream and Year 3 & 4 watching the BBC children's version of the same play. Other activities included colouring in crowns and masks as well as learning some Shakesperean Insults!

Here's what a few of the children thought about the day:

Eshaal (Yr 6) - I enjoyed watching Midsummer Night's Dream. My favourite part was watching Puck the fairy. 

Sam (Yr 6) - My favourite part was when they were all under the spell (magical love potion) and were being very silly. 

Macie (Yr 4) - I liked how they had the backstage pirates performing! 

Girls' Football 

On Wednesday evening the girls' team played their cup replay against Firside. The first game had been a close encounter so we were expecting a tough game.

This time, we had to dig deep as a team but were delighted to come away with a 5-0 victory, which the team were naturally delighted about, and we go into the next round of the cup. Eliza scored all 5 goals and put in a player of the match performance.

Well done to all the girls - Eliza, Hayleigh, Penny, Jessica, Scarlett, Carley, Carissa and Layla.

Safer Internet Day 2025

This week, our school joined others nationwide to celebrate Safer Internet Day 2025, the largest global online safety campaign. This year's theme, ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online,’ focuses on teaching children and young people how to identify and avoid scams, and highlights available support.

Scams can take many forms and target anyone, including young people. You may think that your child would be able to spot an online scammer, but the truth is that they are incredibly convincing and hard to spot. They often involve fake profiles and identities to target people. You may have heard this referred to as ‘catfishing.’ If your child has been targeted by a scam online and they have been made to do something that they didn’t want to, then they are not to blame, they are not in trouble, and support is available.

Your child can complete a quiz on this area of e-safety. Simply click on the link: Safer Internet Day Quiz and choose the appropriate age group. 

Food Scientists to the Rescue!

Last Monday, we had a visiting assembly all about food science. This was part of the promotion of Norwich Science Festival which is taking place in February. We were one of the lucky schools to be able to see the assembly and take part in workshops.

All the children in the school attended the assembly, with Martham also attending a workshop. The assembly covered all aspects of food science, from discussing how some people cannot eat gluten to exploring some of the ways in which we can help and protect and encourage more bees – as part of a biodiverse world! Martham also got to take part in a food science workshop.

Ollie (Yr 3) 'I liked the puppet called Ollie. It was his birthday and he was gluten free so they had to be careful with his food. 

Break Charity have shared some activities that you might like to explore over half-term...

 GoGoSafari @ The Feed Waterloo Park, Norwich NR3 3HX

Break have teamed up with The Feed at Waterloo Park to offer all of our participating schools and groups (and their families) a special free drop in Safari Arts session at The Feed Pavilion Café on Tuesday 18^th February from 10-12. No need to book, just come along. Meet the team, find out about our trail ranger volunteer opportunities and enjoy some free colouring activities. There is also another open session between 1-3pm on the same day for everyone to enjoy.
